E85 / Flex Fuel

E85 as an Attractive Option

E85 is a fuel blend of 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent gasoline. E85 has been in the marketplace for three decades.  E85 reduces emissions by more than 30 percent over traditional gasoline.

Flex fuel vehicles, also known as FFVs, can use any fuel ranging from 0 percent ethanol to 85 percent ethanol (E85). There are more than 22 million FFVs on the road in the U.S., roughly 8 percent of all vehicles, representing more vehicles than require premium gas.

To see if you own an FFV, look for a yellow gas cap or ring, or E85 listed on the inside of your fuel filler door. You can also use our FFV identifier to look up your vehicle’s make and model.
