WASHINGTON, D.C. РRFA President and CEO Bob Dinneen spoke about the most pressing issues facing the ethanol industry during an address to participants of this year's Ethanol Summit in Ṣo Paulo, Brazil. The event hosted every two years by Unịo da Ind̼stria de Cana-de-A̤̼car (UNICA), also known as the Union of the Sugercane Industry, brings together major stakeholders in the ethanol, sugarcane and renewable fuels sectors from across the world to discuss a variety of topics that are important to their industries. RFA President and CEO Bob Dinneen utilized the opportunity to touch on topics like trade, the United States' newly elected president and the environment. "The president has repeatedly expressed his support for biofuels, ethanol and for the Renewable Fuel Standard and we are extraordinarily confident that President Trump understands what we are trying to do and will help this industry grow," said Dinneen. "His agenda, which includes dramatically removing and repealing regulations that only thwart the development of business, is much needed for our industry and we look forward to his regulatory reform agenda and helping us open up new market opportunities across the country." Dinneen also reiterated ethanol's commitment to helping the environment in his address. "Some people were discouraged when the President pulled out from the Paris Accord, but that does not mean that the United States is abdicating its leadership role in reducing carbon. In fact, the U.S. ethanol industry is committed to providing low-cost, low carbon fuels across the globe," said Dinneen. Dinneen closed by speaking about the current state of trade and Brazil's recent trade decision regarding ethanol. "We need to be building markets for those low carbon fuels,' Dinneen stated. "I was surprised when UNICA and the Brazilian government proposed a new tariff on U.S. ethanol Рthat does not help anybody. It hurts Brazilian consumers who will be denied access to the lowest cost octane on the planet.
