Justin Schultz serves as Director, Environment, Health & Safety for the Renewable Fuels Association. Justin is responsible for the development and implementation of a broad range of initiatives to meet the EH&S needs of the association’s members and larger renewable fuels industry.
Prior to joining the RFA in April 2023, Justin began his career in ethanol at Southwest Iowa Renewable Energy (SIRE) in 2009, where he was the Regulatory Manager. In this role, he oversaw a variety of safety and compliance programs, such as Process Safety Management (PSM), Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA), and the Sarbanes Oxley Act (SOX). In addition, Justin was involved in SIRE’s public & legislative affairs, conducted numerous government filings, and was responsible for investor relations.
As a community leader, Justin was elected county supervisor for Pottawattamie County, Iowa for two consecutive terms (2015-2022). He has recently been appointed to the Leadership Iowa Board of Governors, the Emergency Management Agency Advisory Board, and the county Planning Commission.
Justin is a decorated Combat Veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom – Afghanistan. He continues to serve in the Iowa Army National Guard as an Infantry field-grade officer, with over 22 years of service. He is a lifetime member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 11355 and a member of the American Legion Post 725. He holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Iowa and a master’s degree in public administration and public policy (MPAP) from American University in Washington D.C.
