Justin Schultz serves as the Director of Environment, Health & Safety for the Renewable Fuels Association (RFA), based in Council Bluffs, Iowa. In this role, he leads the development and implementation of a broad range of initiatives that support the environmental, health, and safety needs of the RFA’s members and the larger renewable fuels industry. He also represents the association on the AAR Tank Car Committee, which sets rigorous safety standards for hazardous material rail transport, and the ASTM D02 Committee, which develops technical standards for petroleum and bio-based liquid fuels.
Justin joined the RFA in April 2023, bringing over a decade of ethanol industry experience. He began his career at Southwest Iowa Renewable Energy (SIRE) in 2009 as Regulatory Manager, where he led critical safety and compliance programs, including Process Safety Management (PSM), the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA), and the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX). He was also instrumental in public and legislative affairs, regulatory filings, and investor relations.
From 2014 to 2022, Justin served two terms as an elected Pottawattamie County Supervisor, contributing to local governance and community development. He also previously served on the Association of Business and Industry’s Leadership Iowa Board of Governors and the County Emergency Management Agency Advisory Board and remains active on the County Planning Commission.
A decorated Combat Veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom – Afghanistan, Justin has over 24 years of military service. He currently serves as a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve, where he is an Instructor at the Command and General Staff College. He is a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 11355 and a member of American Legion Post 725.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Iowa and a master’s degree in public administration and public policy (MPAP), with honors, from American University in Washington, D.C.
