The Renewable Fuels Association today celebrated the passage of HR 1346, the Nationwide Consumer and Fuel Retailer Choice Act, and applauded the 218 House members who today voted in favor of allowing year-round, nationwide sales of lower-cost E15. The bill passed with bipartisan support and now moves to the Senate for consideration.
“Today’s passage of year-round E15 legislation is a hard-fought victory for consumers seeking lower prices at the pump, farmers seeking new market opportunities, and American families who want cleaner air and greater energy independence,” said RFA President and CEO Geoff Cooper. “At a time of extreme market volatility and higher costs, this bill provides badly needed certainty for fuel retailers, oil refiners, ethanol producers, and consumers alike. The legislation gives Americans the freedom to choose E15 and removes three decades of red tape that had stifled competition and choice in the marketplace.”
Currently available at more than 4,800 locations in the United States, E15 is a fuel blend that contains 15 percent ethanol, offering drivers savings of 20 to 40 cents per gallon. In recent days, E15’s discount to standard E10 gasoline has averaged over 10 percent, according to real prices reported by real people on E15prices.com.
“We applaud the many supporters of E15 in the House and thank them for working across the aisle to finally get this important legislation across the goal line,” Cooper said. “We are grateful for their efforts to stand up for our nation’s farmers, ethanol producers, fuel retailers, and—most of all—America’s hardworking families. Now, we urge the Senate to swiftly pass this legislation and send it to President Trump, who promised to sign it without delay.”
