The Renewable Fuels Association today congratulated member company Western New York Energy, based in Medina, N.Y., for reaching an incredible milestone. The company recently produced its billionth gallon of ethanol.

“We congratulate the investors and staff at Western New York Energy on this important milestone that demonstrates the importance of ethanol both to the local community and to our national energy security,” said RFA President and CEO Geoff Cooper. “The Western New York Energy team has worked tirelessly since 2007 to provide lower-cost, cleaner fuel and valuable bioproducts like high-protein animal feed. We are proud of their success and their impact on the American ethanol industry. Their accomplishment serves as clear reminder of the nationwide impact of our vibrant renewable fuels industry.”

Led by President and CEO Tim Winters, who also sits on the RFA Board of Directors and currently serves as Board Secretary, Western New York Energy, LLC is a locally owned company founded in 2004 to develop the full potential of Western New York’s renewable energy resources. Production at the $90 million facility began immediately after the completion of construction in November 2007. WNYE was the first biofuel plant in the Northeast United States and is currently the only large-scale facility in New York, producing over 60 million gallons of ethanol annually.
