RFA, TRANSCAER to Host Ethanol Safety Seminar in Western New York

The Renewable Fuels Association, in partnership with TRANSCAER, will host an ethanol safety seminar in Western New York later this month. The Nov. 14 seminar, held at Western New York Energy, an RFA member company, is free to attend and limited to the first 75 registrants. Dinner will be provided. Certificates of Completion will be awarded to attendees at the completion of the course. The seminar is designed for individuals who respond to ethanol-related emergencies, as well as those who work at fixed-facilities and transport fuel. The ethanol safety seminar focuses on numerous important areas of ethanol safety including an introduction to ethanol and ethanol-blended fuels, chemical and physical characteristics of ethanol and hydrocarbon fuels, transportation and transfer, storage and dispensing locations, firefighting foam principles, general health and safety considerations and storage and pre-planning considerations. "We are pleased to host an RFA ethanol safety seminar at our ethanol plant," said Western New York Energy President and CEO Tim Winters. "Safety is our top priority and RFA's ethanol safety training program has done a great job of educating emergency personnel on how to effectively respond to hazmat incidents. We want to make sure emergency responders are prepared in the unlikely event of such an incident and look forward to the continuation of the training here in Western New York." "To date, we have held 251 ethanol safety seminars in 42 states, training 6,324 individuals," said RFA Technical Services Manager Missy Ruff, noting that New York will be the 43rd state in which RFA training has been conducted. "That's in addition to 16 Train the Trainer webinars and online ethanol safety training, which 3,000 individuals have completed. These events offer great opportunities for emergency personnel and first responders to learn more about best practices and safety issues related to fuel ethanol. The ethanol industry is very proud of its exceptional safety record, and RFA will ensure this education and training continues."
