TORONTO — Today, Bliss Baker, the President of the Global Renewable Fuels Alliance (GRFA), sent letters to the national leaders of 24 countries that highlighted biofuels as part of their Intended Nationally Determined Contribution (INDC) plans at the recent Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP21). "These governments deserve support as they look to reduce their national green house gas (GHG) emissions by taking advantage of biofuel technologies that are demonstrated to be affordable, effective and immediately available," Baker said. As detailed in a 2015 report by (S&T)2 Consultants Inc., the internationally renowned energy and environmental consulting firm, year after year the reduction in global GHG emissions from global ethanol production and use is increasing. The report also outlined how emission savings from biofuel production and use could increase from 168.9 million tonnes per year in 2014 to 264 million tonnes CO2 equivalent in 2030, based on a conservative annual growth rate of 2.8%. "While the GHG emission reductions currently being delivered by ethanol are substantial there is still room for significant growth in the sector, particularly with the commercialization of next generation technologies," noted Baker. "As countries develop policies to reduce their national GHG emissions, the GRFA will be there to offer technical advice and support," he concluded. In its letter, the GRFA offered the expertise of its members to work with government leaders in the development of forward-thinking policies that maximize the advantages of biofuel technologies.
